Integrated pest management (IPM) hub
With a focus on cereal and oilseed crops, the integrated pest management (IPM) hub features guidance on pests, diseases and weeds and the latest research findings to help you stay in control.
What is IPM?
Integrated pest management (IPM) is a coordinated and planned strategy for the prevention, detection and control of pests, weeds, and diseases.
The continuing loss of plant protection products and rising levels of resistance mean that the conventional crop protection toolbox is shrinking. At the same time, many policy drivers emphasise a need for reduced reliance on pesticides.
The adoption of IPM measures will help move crop protection towards a more sustainable future.
National Action Plan 2025
The Government has unveiled the UK Pesticides National Action Plan (NAP) 2025.
Released on 21 March 2025, the plan is framed against statutory obligations in pesticides regulation and applies to the whole of the UK.
The plan's actions are based on three objectives:
- Encourage uptake of integrated pest management (IPM)
- Establish timetables and targets for the reduction of the use of pesticides
- Strengthen compliance to ensure safety and better environmental outcomes
Further information
At the 2024 Agronomy Conference, Mark Ramsden (ADAS) examined how to improve IPM uptake. The presentation covered IPM tools and resources (through IPM Decisions) and knowledge sharing (via IPM Net).
